This kid goes to 11

While work continued apace on the bulkheads and portlights, we celebrated Maura's 11th birthday. Here you can see her sporting her birthday gifts- an ipod shuffle and a Bonne Bell Lip Smacker ( you remember Lip Smackers, don't you?). We've embarked on a new era. We've entered the tween years.

While she still loves her American Girl doll and books, she understands the appeal of Katy Perry and has more than a bit of Bieber fever. She still loves to play dress up, though she's just as likely now to sneak into my makeup and try to make herself look like a teenager as she is to dress up as a fairy princess. She has one foot firmly in childhood and one toe gently testing the big kid waters. Slow down Momo. Its going by all too quickly...

It was just a few short years ago that this was her normal attire.

Now we have fights over the reasons why she isn't allowed to wear makeup, or clothes that I deem to be too mature or what constitutes 'age appropriate' in general. Slow down my Momo, slow down.

  3. @Jill Thank you!
@Charlotte- They can knock all the want, the door is not getting opened for a few years yet. No dating before 16. I am the "meanest mother ever".

  4. Haha I couldn't date until I was 16 too. She is gorgeous though, watch out! What age is make up allowed? Glad all I have to worry about right now is where the spit rag is to catch the puke-ums...

  5. In our house, you get lip gloss at 11 and that is it until... I'm thinking 14 but we will see. If ica n hold off I will. Besides, the kid looks like she is wearing mascara naturally...

  6. Oh, we're just a few years behind but this makes me happy to read. I love knowing about older kids who are still kids. So many seems to grow up too quickly... We joke that we're staying in the South Pacific until Maia is 21 though;)

  7. YIKES... growing up is exciting and can be hell for the parents. Can stop progress though... You two have done a damn good job so far.

    Expect excellent results...
